Harriet Hosmer

HOSMER, Harriet, American sculptress, 1830-1908. The holder of a number of patents. At the 1876 exhibition she exhibited a statue made out of a new material called Faut Marble (imitation marble). The first of many such materials to come. Her other patents were of a mechanical nature. As a sculptress, she was highly skilled and many of her works commanded very high prices, selling immediately.
