Du COUDRAY, Angélique, French midwife, 1712-1789. She is on record as the first midwife to use a manikin of a woman’s torso as a training aid in how to deliver a foetus. The French government was impressed and paid her a salary to travel the countryside teaching the technique to midwifery students from 1759.
