Harriet Irwin
IRWIN, Harriet, American. In 1869 she became the first woman to patent a design for a complete house. She built the prototype in Charlotte (N.Car), a hexagonal design with great space-efficiency. This was Charlotte House, it still exists. This design was a full architectural plan, despite her having no formal training.
